I don’t think the Giulia is a particularly good-looking car. Nor do I see the point in buying one over a C-Class.

Just like I don’t see the point in buying a C-class when you could get a more reliable, better-equipped, cooler looking Lexus IS for less.

It’s not that good looking and they’re gonna sell a whole 5 of them before FCA says fuck it and pulls Alfa out of our market again. Not to mention it’s an FCA product, so reliability should be right down there towards the bottom of the list.

I was going to say that but I was afraid that I would be called hypocritical (cause some don’t think the IS looks good).

Looks are personal preference but for me that’s the only reason to go for it over a C class. And FCA reliability is right up there with the DSM cars.

Actually, my good sir, I think you’ll find that our man, Scoob, is a poo.

Take it from someone who owns a C-class, they are no fun at all.

Over a C-Class? Probably not.
But over a 3-series, ATS, A4, XE or Lexus IS, it’s certainly a compelling option.
![]() 06/29/2016 at 01:05 |

It is polarizing for sure, but it does look better than the latest C-Class
![]() 06/29/2016 at 01:09 |

I like it, but I think both the XE and C-class are better looking. I also cannot stand the look of new A4 that everyone seems to adore. (Does the Guilia even compete with the A4/3-series/C-class? I haven’t seen one in person yet but it seems to be more ATS/A3/CLA/2-Series sized.)

You buy it because Clarkson once said you can’t be a petrol head without owning an Alfa first.

Eh. Pray the chassis safety issues get sorted out, and it gets platform shared with Dodge to make the next generation Challenger / Charger. Then give it a couple of years for the resale values to take a nose dive.
Boom: Hemi powered european sport sedan for about $20k. All you have to do is wait a few years.
...or you can have any one of it’s competitors - on sale now, and likely better all rounders, the lot of them - today.

Indeed, sir.
HondaBro has done me a real big factual.

While I definitely think the Quadrifolglio is overdone, the standard Giulia is quite handsome and a credible 3 Series competitor (as long as it’s warrantied).
That and the XE are the only good-looking compact execs out there IMO.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
While C-Classes may have been good looking back in the ‘90s, nowadays they’re definitely overstyled. The nose is simply too busy and the side sculpting is doing its best impression of a 2012 Mazda 5. Add the plastic star on the front and the misshapen rear butt and the whole thing looks like someone left an old C-Class under the sun for too long. It may be interesting to look at, but pretty it is not.

There you go. A C-Class is a luxury car. A competent one, but also a generic one. You don’t buy a C-Class because it’s a drivers car, you buy a C-Class to comfortably cruise around in while being surrounded by a quality interior. This Alfa supposedly is a drivers car, more so than a modern BMW. That alone gives it enough credibility in the market, even if we ignore brand and exterior.

You've got your right to your own opinion... it's spectacularly wrong, but you have that right.... for now!

Most of the car looks great IMO but I have never seen this angle of it and I’m scarred now. Those headlights look like the freakiest bug eyes ever. Now to go burn that image out of my eyes.

Straight on is a very unflattering angle. I get a very 2006 dank meme kinda feel

I don’t think it is. Or can be.
Who in FCA can engineer a fun car short of Viper/Ferrari?

Save 20k and get a GTV6
![]() 06/29/2016 at 07:41 |

Well they did lock a team of Ferrari engineers in a room and tell them to design this. So it should be fun.
I also think the interior is much nicer looking than that of the C class. I can't stand that freaking tablet style screen. Or the cheap black plastic in thr more basic models.

Who in FCA can engineer a fun car
We are talking about Alfa Romeo here. An
Italian
branch of FCA. If there’s been one company responsible for fun to drive cars in the past it’s Alfa. I haven’t driven the Giulia myself but from what I’ve read it’s supposedly quite fun to drive.
![]() 06/29/2016 at 07:52 |

Obviously they didn't come over here so I don't know, but the previous generations didn't get glowing reviews about being fun to drive.

I agree. Every time I see it this is all I see.

Having owned a red ‘75 Alfetta, I am ok with the look. I even take a random though of maybe a base turbo 4 might be fun. My concern is tha base might drive like a warmed over Chrysler 200. Here’s what the ‘75 looked like....
![]() 06/29/2016 at 08:20 |

I… agree. It looks above average, but not really special enough for an Alfa. It just looks like a modern BMW at best or just very generic at worst.
The 159 looked far better imho.

I think it looks beautiful......in pictures only. When I saw it at the NYIAS, i was amazed at how odd the front end looked in person. When you’re actually standing next to it, you have a slightly higher vantage point than most of the press photos, and it makes the front end look almost too flat. The majority of the pictures are from such a low angle that it looks awesome...but at standing height it just looks odd.
I wonder how it drives, though.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU. At least in the Quadrifoglio trim. Too many vents and cuts and scoops 4 me. I think it looks decent in the not sporty trims with the exception of the lower grilles. Another thing I don’t understand about Alfa is how they place their badges. So... I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU IN ONE AREA AND THEN WITH SOME RESERVATIONS ABOUT THAT. And I would absolutely buy one over ugly mcuglyface C-Class.

There we go. The C300 I have is nicer inside than my 335i but besides that, I’d take the BMW 7 days a week. The steering in the c class is very light with literally no feel at all. The engine feels rather boring as well, you don’t feel like you are going fast, while the twin turbo inline six will throw you into the back of your seat, while getting better mpg to boot. The brakes do their job well, but don't give the confidence you get with the initial bite of BMW brakes. I don’t regret picking up the c300 (got it before the 335i), but when it’s gone I won’t be missing it TOO much. It has a roomy back seat, big trunk, and is a very good looking car with lots of gadgets. But I’m sure if I let every oppo member drive the C300 back to back with the 335i, at least 70% would take the bimmer.

I have to agree. Some angles it looks fantastic, but some it looks kind of bloated. I’d still take it over a C-class though.
